COMPARE FENCE TYPES

Wood Privacy Fence vs Aluminum Fence

Wood privacy and aluminum solve very different problems. Choosing between them becomes easier when you start with what should be hidden, what should stay visible, who or what the fence needs to contain, and how you want the property to feel.

Choose wood when privacy is the priority

Wood privacy creates visual screening and a more solid backyard enclosure. It can be especially useful where neighboring views, pets, or private outdoor space are the main reasons for the fence.

Choose aluminum when the view should stay open

Aluminum defines a boundary and provides containment while preserving visibility. It can work well around landscaped yards, pools, and places where a solid fence would make the property feel too closed in.

You do not have to choose only one

A property can use wood privacy on selected runs and aluminum elsewhere. Planning by fence run makes it possible to solve different needs without forcing one fence type around the entire property.

Gates and grade affect both options

Gate placement, gate width, terrain, transitions, and connections to structures matter regardless of fence type. Those details belong in the layout before comparing the final scope.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Fence questions

Which fence gives more privacy?

Wood privacy is designed to provide substantially more visual screening than an open aluminum fence.

Can aluminum and wood be combined?

Yes. Different fence runs can use different materials when the property has different needs.

Which is better for a pool?

Aluminum is commonly considered where an open view is desired, but the final fence must satisfy the requirements that apply to the specific pool and property.
